Accessibility Compliance
Filed in California in 2008, SB 1608 “Disability Access Law Reform” is designed to promote and increase accessibility compliance in businesses provided service to the public, while also reducing unwarranted litigation. Businesses can voluntarily hire a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) to inspect their facility or property. The CASp will then be able to provide an inspection report itemizing corrections that need to be made to increase accessibility.
Facilities with CASp Reports completed, and necessary corrections plans for in a timely fashion, have the possibility of a 90-day legal stay if a lawsuit is filed due to accessibility concerns. Business owners with CASp Reports will have the ability to request an Early Evaluation Conference and 90-day stay of an accessibility related lawsuit.
